Many of you who have come across our little slice of the internet have likely done so because you have already been faithful followers of our journey on social media, and likely already know our story. But, on the off chance you’re new here, or would like a refresher, I’d love to share a little bit about who we are and what we’re about.

We are Tom and Jess. We met almost 11 years ago, have been married for a little over 6 years, and are currently in the process of adopting a pair of six and nine year old boys who have been with us for the better part of the last year.
For almost four years now we have had the pleasure of calling a very special 15 acre plot of land home.
What makes our home so special is that it has been in Tom’s family (courtesy of his second great grandfather Fred A. Longcore) since June of 1919. While his family originally owned a much larger chunk of property right here on the ridge- this is the only piece that has remained completely within the family for the last 100 years.
We are currently going through the process of applying for centennial farm status, however thanks to a few missing documents and the current pandemic making it difficult to access old government archives, it has been a slow process at best.
For the vast majority of the history on this property, Tom’s family has produced maple syrup—starting in the back of the woods on an open fire and pan—progressing to the placement of a sugar shack and formal evaporator in the early 1990s—and continuing now. Tom fell in lI’ve with maple syrup production helping his grandparents throughout his childhood.
The shack sat dormant for almost a decade because of Gradnpa’s advancing age and difficulties maintaining the operation—however as soon as we built and moved onto the property in 2017 we began the undertaking of major renovations (still underway) and brought the sugar shack and syrup production back to life.
We anticipate our upgrades and renovations to continue to take the better part of the next two years— however we’ve already made significant progress and have been loving sharing our syrup and products with our friends and family.

While our syrup option may be front and center on our little farm, it’s far from the only thing happening.
We have quite the collection of critters that I can’t wait to share with you here on the blog including chickens, ducks, goats, cats and dogs. We’re actively working on breeding programs foe our birds and goats, and can’t wait to add more furry friends to our adventures in the future—potentially piggies and donkeys and only Lord knows what else.

We are expecting the birth of our first baby goats on the farm this spring— and are excited to soon be experimenting with and sharing goat milk products such as soap and lip balm.
And as if we don’t have enough going on around here, we currently have two beehives and are working to develop a small apiary and put our sugar shack to work in the summer and fall processing honey.

We are also avid gardeners—from fruit to berries to general produce to flowers— have dreams of opening either a small produce stand or other shop to share all of our goodies with you.
We love the outdoors and are avid hunters and fishers. We enjoy all things homemade and handmade. And we also understand the value of hard work— and undertake all of our own construction projects here on the farm.
So —thank you in advance for your love and support. I can’t wait to share all of our chaos with you.
<3 Jess
